Brunei Darussalam’s government is offering scholarships for international students for the 2025/2026 academic year. These scholarships support the pursuit of Diploma, Bachelor’s, and Master’s degree programs at leading universities in Brunei.

Five Participating Institutions

1. Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD)
2. Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA)
3. Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB)
4. Kolej Universiti Perguruan Ugama Seri Begawan (KUPU SB)
5. Politeknik Brunei (PB)

Program Duration:

• Diploma: 3 years
• Undergraduate Degree: 8 semesters (4 years full-time)
• Master’s Degree: 12 or 24 months

Degree Levels:

• Diploma
• Undergraduate Degree Programs (Bachelors)
• Post-graduate Degree Programs ( Masters)

Eligibility Requirements:

• Age Limit:
  • Under 25 for Undergraduate/Diploma programs.
  • Under 35 for Master’s programs (as of July 1 of the year the program starts).
• English Proficiency:
  • GCE ‘O’ Level: Credit 6, or
  • IGCSE: Grade ‘C’ (English as a second language), or
  • IELTS: 6.0+, or TOEFL: 550+.
• Note: This is open to first-time international students only. Bruneians, permanent residents, and current or past students of Brunei institutions are not eligible.

Application Procedure and How to Apply:

1. Application Deadline: 15 February 2025

2. Interview and Language Assessment

• Applicants may be required to attend an interview at a location determined by the respective institutions.
• A written examination may also be conducted to assess proficiency in English, Malay, or Arabic (if applicable).

3. Application Review

• The Government of Brunei Darussalam reserves the right to reject any application.
• The selection decision is final, and no disputes or appeals will be entertained.

4. Required Documents

Applicants must upload the following documents with their application:

• A copy of the Identification Card.
• Certified true copies of academic qualifications and other supporting documents (e.g., certificates, testimonials, and transcripts).
• Certified English translations for documents not in English.
• Certified true copies of the Birth Certificate and Passport.
• References and recommendations from referees (download format: C1 and C2).

Scholarship Benefits

1. Full tuition fee waiver, including acceptance, examination, registration, and orientation fees.
2. Economy class air tickets:
   • From the recipient’s country to Brunei before the program starts.
   • From Brunei to the recipient’s country upon program completion.
3. Monthly allowances:
   • Personal: BND 500.
   • Meals: BND 150.
4. Annual book allowance: BND 600.
5. Accommodation at the university/polytechnic residential college.
6. Baggage allowance upon program completion:
   • BND 250 (to ASEAN countries).
   • BND 500 (to non-ASEAN countries).
7. Comprehensive insurance coverage for the scholarship duration (recipients are encouraged to arrange additional insurance at their own expense).

Conditions of the Scholarship

1. Exclusivity:
   • It cannot be held concurrently with other scholarships, fellowships, grants, or loans without prior approval from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
   • Violation may result in immediate termination or revocation.
2. Family and Dependents:
   • Bringing family members is discouraged.
   • No marriage or child allowance is provided, and no accommodation for accompanying dependents.
3. Employment Restrictions:
   • Paid employment or roles at any foreign representative mission in Brunei are prohibited during the scholarship.
4. Conduct and Obligations:
   • Adhere to all rules and regulations of the scholarship and the institution.
   • Respect Brunei’s customs, culture, and official religion.
   • Comply with Brunei’s laws and refrain from political activities.
   • Undergo health screenings in Brunei if required by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
5. Departure Requirement:
   • Scholarship recipients must leave Brunei immediately upon program completion.
